All About Egypt

We just thought we'd take a short break out of all our stimulating diversions to talk about something we think is really important: the current political situation in Egypt. For many people, Egypt brings to mind historical feats and massive pyramids, but in more modern times, Egypt has had as much turmoil as any country in the middle east. It certainly made us here at Sporcle, despite being a quiz and trivia based site, realize how little we knew about the country beyond just the facts of our quizzes.

In the past, we've published a couple of quizzes on Sporcle about Egypt, one as it stands today and another about it's ancient mythology. We're glad to see that the people of egypt Egypt were able to receive the change they asked for, and if it helped a few us around the world see beyond our preconceptions, and look at the day-to-day problems of people in a foreign land, that can only be a good thing.

Have a great weekend everybody!

DonorsChoose.org

You may have noticed the DonorsChoose box on our homepage the last couple of weeks and wonder what it's about. DonorsChoose is a website that allows donors to give directly to a classroom project in order for teachers to purchase classroom supplies.

If you go to our donation page at DonorsChoose.org, you can see the project requests that we've included. You can either choose to give to any of our pre-selected projects, or donate an amount of money that will be given to the most urgent project.

Please let us know at our feedback page if you have any questions or concerns.

Making Sporcle Even Better

You may have noticed that we had a little downtime last Saturday night, but as you can now see we updated the look and feel of Sporcle. (Look at that shading!) We've also recently updated our Editor's Picks page to a much more robust version. You can now click through and see all of the editor's picks from each category sorted by date, rating or number of game plays. This feature actually came directly from a user suggestion, so if you have a great idea for Sporcle, or you want to let us know what you think of the new changes, make sure and contact us at our feedback page.

A Scary Sporcle Halloween

As you may have noticed, Sporcle had some problems on Halloween. You may have experienced some strange issues where your quiz results were displaying improperly, or a quiz you attempted to play was out of order or garbled in some way. We believe our Halloween haunting has been solved, but if you see any further issue with a game you've played or created, please contact us immediately using our Feedback page.

Regards,
Sporcle

The Daily Dose

You may have noticed that we have a new feature on our website called The Daily Dose. At Sporcle, we're always trying to come up with great new ideas, and this is our answer to folks who just need to get their Sporcle fix a little bit faster. Here's a little more detail about each game:

Minute Morsel: We know that sometimes you only have a couple of minutes before that next meeting or class and there's no way you'll be able to finish one of our longer quizzes. The Minute Morsel was created just for this. It's basically a small slice of a quiz already published on our site. If you happen to be in the mood to try the full quiz later, the link is right there below the morsel.

Missing Word: This is a quick fill-in-the blank style quiz that we're hoping is a fun mind-jogger Every day we'll have you filling in the blanks of various subjects. So far we've had subjects like movie and song titles, but we're looking for even more great ideas for future quizzes.

Scrambled Word: This quiz is designed to put a Sporcle twist on the old word scramble games from your morning paper. With this quiz, you might be unscrambling a celebrity name, or figuring out the answer to a joke.

While the Minute Morsel is compiled from existing published games, the Missing and Scrambled Word games are currently done by the Sporcle editors. However, we know that our community suprises us again and again with creative, excellent quizzes, so we definitely want to see a lot more user contributions to this part of our site. Think of it this way, with two new daily quizzes every day, these new quizzes are one the best ways to get yourself published on Sporcle.
